3 Van lipidemetabolisme naar behandeling

Samenvatting

De belangrijkste lipiden zijn cholesterol en triglyceriden. De fysiologische functie van triglyceriden is het opslaan van energie. Van de gemiddelde dagelijkse intake van 100 g vet bevindt zich slechts 1-3 g in het circulerende bloed. Dit illustreert de efficiënte opslag van vetten in adipocyten en de lever. Cholesterol is een essentiële bouwsteen voor celmembranen, maar vormt ook de grondstof voor galzouten en steroïdhormonen in bijnieren en gonaden. Het grootste deel het cholesterol wordt endogeen gesynthetiseerd in de lever, daarnaast wordt het via de voeding ingenomen.
