Kinderen met developmental coordination disorder: een motorisch leerprobleem?

Samenvatting

Kinderen met developmental coordination disorder (DCD) hebben een achterstand in hun motorische ontwikkeling. Een interventie met ‘Wii Fit balans training’ blijkt bij deze kinderen een positief effect te hebben. Bij die interventie wordt een appèl gedaan op verplaatsingen van het lichaamszwaartepunt, en op anticipatoire en reactieve controle. Tijdens een training van vijf weken is de motorische leercurve vergelijkbaar met die van de controlekinderen. Dit onderzoek is zowel in Nederland als in Zuid-Arika uitgevoerd en alle kinderen met DCD blijken de door hen aangeleerde vaardigheden te kunnen toepassen bij activiteiten in het dagelijks leven. Dit maakt de positieve resultaten van de interventie met ‘Wii Fit balans training’ robuuster en laat zien dat het resultaat onafhankelijk is van culturele verschillen of eerder opgedane ervaringen met spel, sport en gaming.
