Spectrum issue 4 on cost-benefit analyses in prevention raised a lot of discussion. Invited by Spectrumeditor Hans van Oers the debate is continued by Erik Buskens, Matthijs van den Berg en Casper Schoemaker. They all agree about the broad societal importance of good health. Where Buskens, however, dreams about high potential benefits of prevention, Van den Berg en Schoemaker go down to earth and ask for evidence. Their warning that cost-benefit analyses might in the end even harm prevention, has to be taken seriously by all public health advocates.
