‘Heb je wel eens een sigaret gerookt?’

Samenvatting

Er is veel aandacht geweest voor passief roken als risicofactor voor astma bij kinderen. Maar actief roken is uiteraard nog schadelijker.1 Over de manier waarop je kunt voorkomen dat kinderen met astma gaan roken, is echter minder bekend dan over stoppen met roken door hun ouders. Wanneer het gaat om jonge kinderen heeft de zorgverlener altijd, dus ook bij ‘rookgedrag’, te maken met de ouders. Anders ligt dit overigens bij pubers en adolescenten. Dit artikel geeft een pluspunt en een minpunt – een opsteker en een valkuil – bij de manier waarop je kinderen met astma en hun ouders kunt benaderen bij roken.
