Een kwade dronk, agressie in het uitgaansleven en zinloos geweld roepen negatieve associaties op met alcohol- en drugsgebruik. Maar is er wel een relatie tussen alcohol- en drugsgebruik en agressie? En zo ja, waarom is dan niet iedereen die onder invloed is van deze middelen agressief? …

Vanuit een bepaald hersengebied – het ventraal tegmentaal gebied – lopen dopaminerge zenuwuitlopers naar de frontale cortex en delen van het limbisch systeem. Deze projectieroute, het mesocorticolimbisch dopaminesysteem, wordt ook wel het dopaminerge beloningssysteem genoemd, omdat het nauw betrokken is bij beloning en verslaving.

Het transporteiwit van een neurotransmitter is het eiwit (de receptor) dat ervoor zorgt dat een bepaalde neurotransmitter weer wordt opgenomen in de zenuwcel.
