38 Parodontale abcesbehandeling

Samenvatting

Een parodontaal abces wordt gedefinieerd als een lokale laesie met duidelijke parodontale afbraak in een kort tijdsbestek en met een lokale ophoping van pus. Naast een tandabces en een acute pericoronitis vormt een parodontaal abces een veelvoorkomend spoedgeval voor zowel de tandarts als de parodontoloog (8 tot 14% van alle tandheelkundige spoedbehandelingen) (Herrera e.a., 2000). Aangezien een onbehandeld parodontaal abces door de continue bacteriëmie ook de algemene gezondheid van de patiënt bedreigt, is een snelle behandeling noodzakelijk.
