Samenvatting

Ruim veertig jaar geleden begon de klinische toepassing van echocardiografie voorzichtig met B-mode. Daarna kwam M-mode, maar de echte doorbraak kwam met 2D-echocardiografie: samen met de verschillende dopplertechnieken – pulsed, CW en kleurendoppler – vormt deze techniek de kern van vrijwel elk echo-onderzoek. 2D-echografie heeft echter beperkingen. Het eerste artikel over 3Decho, daterend uit 1974, wees hier al op.
