Samenvatting

  • De essentie van behavioural medicine is interdisciplinaire samenwerking en de integratie van gedragsmatige en biomedische kennis op het gebied van gezondheid en ziekte. Behavioural medicine draagt bij aan de integratie van psychologische theorieën in de patiëntenzorg op het gebied van primaire preventie, diagnostiek, behandeling en revalidatie.
  • Ongezond gedrag (roken, te veel alcohol drinken, te veel verzadigd vet eten, te weinig groente en fruit eten, onvoldoende lichamelijk actief zijn, overgewicht hebben) is de belangrijkste oorzaak van de geringere toename van levensduur in Nederland ten opzichte van andere Europese landen.
  • In de toekomst is meer en andere zorg nodig. In de gezondheidszorg verschuift de focus van genezing naar verzorging. Gezamenlijke zorg (‘collaborative care’) is belangrijk.
  • Door geïntegreerde zorg kan patiëntgerichter worden gewerkt en gezondheidswinst worden geboekt.
  • Informatievoorziening over gezond(er) gedrag aan patiënten en gezonden alleen is niet genoeg. Interventies in de medische praktijk moeten gericht zijn op gedragsverandering.
