Samenvatting

Het woord apexresectie is overgebleven uit het verleden, toen er nog onvoldoende inzicht bestond over de pathogenese van periapicale aandoeningen. In oude boeken over mond- en kaakchirurgie, zoals van Wassmund (1935)¹⁰ maar ook van Thoma (1963)⁹ en Archer (1966)¹ wordt de nadruk nog gelegd op de resectie van ongeveer een derde deel van de wortel en verwijdering van al het periapicale ontstekingsweefsel en ‘necrotische cement’.
